Norman Malware Cleaner 2009.06.22

Norman Malware Cleaner is a Norman program that can be used to detect and remove specific malicious software (malware).

Note that it should not be used as a substitute for running normal proactive antivirus protection, but rather as a reactive tool to handle systems that are already infected.

By downloading and running Norman Malware Cleaner it will clean an infected system completely:

- kill running processes that are infcted
- remove infections from disk (including ActiveX components and browser helper objects)
- reveal and remove rootkits
- restore correct registry values
- remove references created by malware in hosts file
- remove windows firewall rules for malicious programs

Note
To give Norman Malware Cleaner the best working conditions possible, we recommend that you start the computer in Safe mode before running the program.

To do this, tap the F8 key on your keyboard during startup, before Windows starts, and select Safe mode from the menu that appears.

Pressing the F8 key at just the right time may be a little difficult (after the firmware POST process completes, but before Windows displays graphical output). If the F8 method does not work, repeat the procedure, but press the F8 key more quickly, or press it several times.

On some (older) computers, the F8 key method may not work. In these Windows versions you may also configure your computer to start in Safe mode through the System Configuration Utility (msconfig).

ARCHOS 10s The World's Thinnest Netbook

Nowadays, any major roll-out of several ultra-portable computing systems would simply not feel the same without a netbook, so it's no wonder that, given its recent product “overflow,” Archos also added one such product to its lineup. And while we're not talking about something completely new and innovative (after all, the company's first netbook has been around for quite some time now), the truth of the matter is that the ARCHOS 10s has a few things going for it, probably the most important being the ultra-thin form factor.This Netbook at an overall thickness of just around 0.866 inches (or around 2.2 cm), the ARCHOS 10s is touted by its manufacturer as being the world's thinnest netbook (or MiniPC, as the French company calls it), a claim that's more or less hard to track, given the fact that there are so many such products available out there (many coming from certain far-East manufacturers very few people have even heard about).Besides the fact that the frame is so thin, the overall design is also very attractive, since the casing is a mix of white and brushed-steel gray, while the materials used within its construction, namely aluminium and magnesium, further enhance its looks.

Now, while the outside of this netbook might be pretty different and attractive, on the inside, things are pretty standard. Hence, aside from the 10.2-inch display, the Archos 10s sports an Intel Atom N270 CPU running at 1.6 GHz, accompanied by 1GB of RAM memory and an 80GB HDD. The latter is not particularly impressive, but should do, at least for some basic purposes, like running the Windows XP Home OS this thing comes pre-loaded with.

Sadly, absolutely no pricing-related details have been provided, but we are likely to find out more on this issue when this thing hits the shelves, apparently later on this month (or in early July).

New Nitendo DS School Edition

You probably haven't heard about it yet, but Nintendo quietly announced a new version of the DS handheld gamer this week specifically designed to be used in classrooms.The Nitendo DS features no new hardware, but instead consists of a package of several handhelds, a PC and newly developed educational software for the DS.

Nintendo, which developed the package with Sharp, says it hopes to persuade schools to take the bundle and issue a DS to each studentOnce students and teachers are connected through the DS Wi-Fi link they should be able to share study materials instantly, with students also filing some work and test answers on the handhelds.

• Cutting bureaucracy

The supplied PC software will also make it simple for teachers to keep track of student progress and, theoretically, cut down on administrative paperwork.Nintendo aims to start selling the as-yet-unpriced DS Classroom tool from next February, initially in Japan, with overseas launches likely if the reception is positive.

Similar to some other Smartfish computer accessories, this game controller was developed together with specialists from the medical field, namely the doctors from the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York. Plus, it's designed for a fairly wide audience, given the fact that it works very well with both Windows and Mac systems
Once again, Smarfish has been rather secretive about pricing or availability details, but it does inform us that customers who will purchase the PRO:Motion Game Controller when it becomes officially available will also get a plastic keyboard dust cover, CD with software, comfort guidelines, help center, Quick Start guide, five-year limited hardware warranty, and full product support as a part of the sales package.
